Alex Morgan Career

California’s Diamond Bar is where Morgan was raised. She participated in a variety of sports as a child but didn’t focus on soccer until she was a teen. She received various honors and accolades for her soccer prowess while a student at the University of California, Berkeley. Morgan earned a political economy bachelor’s degree in 2010.

The Western New York Flash selected Morgan with the first overall pick in the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft. The WPS, however, was dissolved at the conclusion of her maiden season. She eventually joined the Women of the United Soccer Leagues’ Seattle Sounders Women (formerly known as Sound FC [Football Club]), a division of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. There, she competed against soccer greats like Megan Rapinoe and Hope Solo. Morgan switched to the National Women’s Soccer League following the 2012 campaign. She was a member of the Portland (Oregon) Thorns FC from 2013 to 2015.

She joined Orlando (Florida) Pride in 2016. Morgan played brief stints on loan with two European teams while still under contract with the Pride: Olympique Lyonnais Féminin (Lyon) in France (2016–17) and Tottenham Hotspur in England (2020–21). In order to be there for the birth of her baby, Morgan, who wed American soccer player Servando Carrasco in 2014, skipped much of the 2020 season.

On the opening penalty kick of the Women’s World Cup, Alex Morgan stopped the USWNT.

In the opening Women’s World Cup match for the United States women’s national team, Vietnam goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh may have been the game’s best player in the first half.

Her greatest achievement was stopping Alex Morgan’s 45th-minute penalty kick, which briefly kept the score at one goal before the U.S. went on to win 3-0.

With VAR overturning an original no-call, Trinity Rodman of the United States was fouled in the box by Th Loan Hoang and awarded a penalty kick.

The USWNT appeared to have a chance to get some breathing room in a match they had so far controlled with their sixth penalty kick in six games of this World Cup, but it was unsuccessful.

Thanh saved Morgan, who hadn’t missed a penalty at the club level since 2021, by diving to her left and landing on a shot with little elevation.

However, Sophia Smith scored her second goal of the game in the last seconds of the first half to give the Americans a much-needed second goal and make it 2-0 before the squad added a third goal in the second half.
