Ellis and Crystal Devale The new BET+ series Tyler Perry’s Zatima, starring Renee Hayslett and beloved Sistas characters Zac (Ellis) and Fatima (Hayslett), follows Zac and Fatima as they deal with the ups and downs of their relationship.
When she met Zac, an ex-convict attempting to start over, Fatima was working as an assistant at a legal firm, as shown on Sistas. Zac and Fatima made the decision to advance their burgeoning romance as they became closer.
In Tyler Perry’s Zatima, viewers will learn the status of the couple’s relationship now that they have made the decision to become legally married and begin a new life together. Ellis and Hayslett discussed the recurring themes and lessons from the new spinoff in an exclusive interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE.
ZATIMA’S THEME IS LOVE, LIFE, LAUGHTER, AND LESSONS, I LIKE TO SAY,” HAYSLETTE SAID.
“We’re also taking the audience on this voyage with us as Zac and Fatima navigate life and love together to develop and learn important lessons that we all go through. We manage to laugh our way through a lot of the growing pains of love because life is already difficult enough.
Ellis outlined how the difficulties many newlywed couples experience as they figure out how to navigate life together through the issues Zac and Fatima share.
“I would have to say communication, grace, friendship, and change,” Ellis stated of the main themes. We have the opportunity to see two people who are deeply in love with one another as they attempt to integrate their newly discovered love into their already complicated lives with enduring friends and family in season one.
Fans of Sistas are accustomed to the beginning of Zac and Fatima’s romance. However, Zatima offers viewers a close-up view of Fatima’s childhood and how it affected her choices in life.
“ON ZATIMA, YOU GET TO SEE THE BACKSTORY OF ZAC AND FATIMA,” HAYSLETT SAID.
“You get a behind-the-scenes look at Fatima’s motivations for many of her decisions, and it all starts to make sense as to why she is the way she is. You also get to meet Fatima’s family and friends, which adds a different aspect from Sistas, the speaker continued.
Zac, a former prisoner, updates his supporters on his life and profession after having first-hand experience with the criminal justice system in the United States.
Ellis said, “In Zatima, thankfully, Zac has moved past his challenges in coping with recidivism. “We get a chance to finally see Zac live freely in this new space of financial security.”
There is one crucial element that the performers focused on while filming when it comes to why Zatima is significant and what the stars of the new series hope viewers will take away.
“WE MADE A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO PORTRAY LOVE IN AN WAY THAT GIVES THE AUDIENCE HOPE,” HAYSLETT SAID.
“Leaving every week with something that makes them hold onto their significant other a little tighter.”
Zatima also features content for folks who are single and just like to consume quality media.
“For our singles, like myself, you’ll feel a little more hope that you’ll find your “ideal” fit one day — if that’s even what you want,” said Hayslett. In the end, all we want to do is add light to everyone’s homes.
