Devon Archer News

As Republicans continue their investigations into President Joe Biden and his family, a former close business friend of Hunter Biden is anticipated to testify before the House Oversight Committee next week behind closed doors, sources confirm to ABC News.

According to a source, Devon Archer would give information about the president’s sons’ business dealings in Ukraine to GOP senators during a private meeting on Monday.

Because he “played a significant role in the Biden family’s business deals abroad, including but not limited to China, Russia, and Ukraine,” according to the subpoena, the committee subpoenaed Archer to attend a deposition in June.

The interview with Archer on Monday will probably be the latest attempt by Republicans to bolster their assertions that President Biden was more involved in his son’s business affairs than he has reported.

Biden told reporters during his 2020 campaign, “I have never discussed with my son, my brother, or anyone else, anything having to do with their businesses.”

James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement on Monday that the committee “will continue to follow the facts to give the openness and accountability that the American people want and deserve. Devon Archer and I hope to talk soon about Joe Biden’s role in the commercial activities of his family.

When asked about a New York Post article that claimed Hunter Biden had put his father on speakerphone while the older Biden was vice president, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that the president “was never in business with his son.”

Republicans have recently intensified their investigation into the Biden family, thus the announcement of the upcoming interview is timely. Last week, two IRS informants testified before Congress that the Justice Department had dragged its feet on the probe of the president’s son.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, also made public an unsubstantiated claim made by a confidential FBI informant that the Biden family had “pushed” a Ukrainian tycoon to give them $10 million in the past.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee criticized Grassley and Comer for disclosing the FBI form in a memo to House Democrats that ABC News was able to get. They described it as an effort to “breathe new life into years-old conspiracy theories.”

The document stated that the decision to make the form publicly available by Chairman Comer and Sen. Grassley was made “in blatant disregard of the safety of FBI human sources and the integrity of its investigations.” Contrary to Republican rhetoric, the form offers no new or further evidence in support of the president or Hunter Biden’s alleged misconduct.

The letter said that the book’s publishing just aimed to revive long-debunked conspiracy theories that Rudy Giuliani had first promoted.

Hunter Biden will appear in a Delaware courtroom on Wednesday to formally accept the plea agreement he made with federal prosecutors who were looking into his business operations last month.

The younger Biden entered into a pretrial diversion program in June and agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges in exchange for avoiding prosecution on a second felony weapons charge.
