Esther Choi Career

Esther Choi, a well-known chef who draws inspiration from her Korean upbringing, is Ms. Yoo’s partner and the chef/owner of mkbar and mkbar Brooklyn.

Because she thinks that cuisine most accurately reflects a nation’s culture, Chef Esther draws inspiration from the traditional cooking techniques used by her Korean grandmother.

Chef Esther’s food combines traditional and modern elements with fresh, seasonal ingredients because she has a genuine love for teaching New Yorkers the flavors of Korean culture.

At the age of 14, Esther started receiving a formal education.

She attended the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in New York City where she acquired her professional culinary training. She then worked there at ilili, La Esquina, and the Food Network.

The “Kitchen Gadgets” video series Esther produced for Eater attracted over 50 million viewers while displaying her cooking prowess and mouthwatering Korean cuisine.

Esther Choi News

In the second installment of Heat Eaters, chef Esther Choi delves deeply into SPICY CHINESE FOOD with Bobby Flay to investigate tingling hand-ripped noodles, potent street-food lamb skewers, and traditional hot pot. Esther travels to Flushing Queens to sate her yearning for mala spice, a hot and numbing condiment produced from chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns. Her voyage starts at Xi’an Famous Foods, where she meets up with friend and restaurant owner Jason Wang. There, they take part in a hand-ripped biang biang noodle-making demonstration and try some of the restaurant’s spiciest delicacies, like the tingly-hot beef noodles. After that, Esther and Jason go to Jue Wei BBQ, a Chinese food cart, to taste the lamb skewers with mala spice. At Xiang Hot Pot Restaurant, Chef Esther joins forces with her close friend and mentor, Bobby Flay, to enjoy the heat of Chengdu-style hot pot. Is Bobby up to the challenge? Watch to be in awe of the craft of preparing Chinese noodles, understand why small lamb skewers carry a punch, and find out why eating hot pot slowly might result in a nicer experience.
