Fani Willis News

In a letter obtained by CNN, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis stated that she will make her decision on whether to press charges against former President Donald Trump or his allies this summer in relation to their efforts to taint Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results known.

Willis wrote the neighborhood police to let them know she planned to reveal any potential charges between July 11 and September 1 in a letter.

The letter is yet another strong indication that Willis, as previously reported by CNN, is seriously considering bringing charges of racketeering and conspiracy in relation to Trump’s actions in the Peach State in the run-up to the 2020 election.

Dem. Willis stated in a letter to the government: “I am providing this letter to draw your attention to the need for increased security and readiness in the coming months due to this pending announcement.”

Willis claimed in a letter to Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat that “open-source intelligence” has previously demonstrated that the conclusion of this case may cause “significant” public indignation that might end in “violence.” Labat is in charge of maintaining security at the courthouse.

“Please accept this mail as notice,” said Willis in the letter, “to allow you sufficient time to organize the Sheriff’s Office and work with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure that our law enforcement community is ready to secure the people.

A metro Atlanta police chief confirmed to CNN’s Ryan Young that his department also received a letter from Willis on Monday expressing his want for them to be prepared to assist with security and law enforcement preparations before any potential charges.

On July 11, at the start of Fulton County’s fourth term of court, Willis would bring any prospective charging recommendations to the regularly seated grand juries, each of which has two-month terms.

Willis started her thorough investigation immediately after assuming office in early 2021 and soon after the contentious phone call from January during which Trump allegedly asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” the votes needed for Trump to win Georgia’s electoral votes was made public.

Investigators have at least three recordings of Trump putting pressure on Georgian officials, including a phone conversation in which he asked the state’s House speaker to call a special session of the legislature to overturn the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the state’s 2020 presidential election.
