Pruitt was born in Rainsville, Alabama, on May 28, 1974. He played high school football at Plainview High School, where he was a two-time all-state selection. He then played college football at Middle Tennessee State University, where he was a three-year starter at defensive back.
Coaching career
Pruitt began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Alabama in 1997. He then served as a defensive coordinator at Hoover High School in Alabama, and as an assistant coach at Florida State and Georgia before being hired as the defensive coordinator at Alabama in 2016.
Pruitt was hired as the head coach at Tennessee in 2018. He led the Volunteers to a 15-19 record in three seasons. He was fired in January 2021 after the NCAA began investigating the program for recruiting violations.
