Kevin Spacey News

Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey sobbed in court as he received a complete acquittal in his London sexual assault trial.

Nine sexual offense accusations against four men between 2001 and 2013 were dismissed by Southwark Crown Court juries.

After the trial, Mr. Spacey thanked the jury for their lengthy, over 12-hour deliberations, saying he was “grateful” to them.

The Oscar winner added that he felt “humbled” outside the court.

The American actor was cleared of seven counts of sexual assault, one count of coercing someone into having intercourse without their consent, and one count of coercing someone into having penetrative sex without their consent.

He put his hand on his chest as the verdict was announced, turned to face the jury, and mouthed “thank you” twice before they walked out.

Mr. Spacey said there was “a lot for me to process” when speaking to reporters from the court steps.

He remarked, “I would want to say that I am tremendously thankful to the jury for having taken the time to thoroughly consider all of the facts and all of the evidence before they reached their judgment.

“I am humbled by today’s result. In addition, I want to thank the security personnel, the courthouse employees, and everyone else who looked after us on a daily basis.

The prosecution’s claims that Mr. Spacey had “aggressively” grabbed three men by the crotch and had engaged in sexual activity with a third man while he was asleep in his flat were rejected by the jury.

The four complainants felt “small, diminished, and worthless” after seeing the celebrity, the prosecution told the jury.

On Wednesday, Mr. Spacey, who turned 64, denied all complaints, calling them “weak,” “crazy,” and a “stab in the back.”

The complainants had all denied either looking for financial benefit, trying to advance their careers, or giving false testimonies to the jury while being questioned by Mr. Spacey’s attorney, Patrick Gibbs KC.

All complainants have a legal right to lifetime anonymity.

Prosecutors respected the jury’s verdict, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The CPS’s role, according to a spokesman, is to fairly, independently, and objectively determine whether it is appropriate to file charges, not to determine if a person has committed a crime.

The trial lasted almost four weeks, and the jury heard testimony from a number of witnesses, including Mr. Spacey.

Sir Elton John, who appeared via video link from Monaco, and Sir Elton’s husband, David Furnish, served as defense witnesses.

The Hollywood icon earned the best supporting actor Oscar for The Usual Suspects in 1995, and the best actor Oscar for American Beauty in 2000.

Between 2004 to 2015, he served as artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre in London.

Following several allegations of inappropriate behavior, Mr. Spacey’s career was put on hold in 2017.

He had the lead part of Frank Underwood in the Netflix political drama House of Cards at the time, but he lost it.

The CPS filed charges against him in May 2022 for the acts committed against the three males, and in November 2022, a fourth complainant filed additional allegations.
