They hurried back inside after continuously banging on the cyclist’s door in room 930 at 10.40 p.m. They “frustrated” van der Poel, who had been concentrating on race, with their conduct.
According to the police report, van der Poel’s girlfriend Roxanne Bertels told the girls to stop playing when they kept knocking on the cyclist’s door. When the knocking continued, the 27-year-old waited for the women and chased them inside their hotel room before starting a terrifying assault.
In the days following the attack, the father of the two involved sisters uploaded a video of his 12-year-old daughter’s sister getting ready to knock on van der Poel’s door. The 27-year-old cyclist can be seen chasing after the girl as she runs hysterically inside her hotel room.
One of the sisters sprints to the room’s corner and quickly covers her face with crushed tissue. Van der Poel encircles her and tugs her by the arms after a while, causing her to tumble and graze her elbow. The video ends with Van der Poel standing over one of the females as she cowers in a room corner.
According to police records, the only injuries she received as the rider sped up to her, grabbed both of her arms, gripped them, and shoved her against a wall while screaming at her were a tiny carpet burn cut to her right elbow and some redness to her left forearm.
