Pro surfer In a bizarre surfing mishap on Sunday morning, Mikala Jones passed away. He was 44.
Isabella Jones, the athlete’s daughter, announced the news on Instagram on Sunday.
Mikala, who moved from Hawaii to Indonesia years ago, was reportedly surfing along the Mentawai Islands’ coast while living at the Awera Resort in North Sipora, Indonesia, with his family, according to Surfline.
According to the outlet, a surfboard fin caused a 10-centimeter wound inside his left groin that severed his femoral artery.
Isabella penned a heartfelt obituary for her father and shared pictures from their early years as well as pictures of him surfing.
I can’t believe it right now; it doesn’t feel true, Isabella said. I hope I could give you one last embrace, Dad, because I love you so much. I wish I could tell you once more how much I cherish you and appreciate all that you do as a father. You weren’t supposed to depart yet, so I wish you were still here with us. It’s too early.
“I am aware that you and your pals, Nana Vi, are in a terrific place right now. I wish this had never occurred so that we could just get up tomorrow and go surfing together,” she wrote.
“I’m not sure how to put this in words, but my dad got into a bad surfing accident and didn’t make it,” Isabella said in reference to her father’s passing. I’m glad he was engaged in what he most enjoyed. Without you, life will never be the same.
I would do anything to have just one more minute with you, even if it meant that we argued and then burst out laughing, she said. “I want to thank you for all the life lessons you’ve taught me and for always being there for me. I wish you were still with us at this moment. Dad, you’ll be in my mind always.
Isabella concluded her letter with, “I love you so much, thank you for everything fly high ur an f—ing legend.”
Tia Blanco, one of the top surfers in the world, sent her sympathies in the comments area, saying, “Your dad was one of the kindest people I’ve encountered in the surfing community. I was shocked to get this news. I’m sending you love and courage. We apologize for this.

On her Instagram Story, Isabella retweeted tributes from her friends. “Surfing barrels in heaven I love you so much,” she commented over a video of her father shared by surf filmmaker Taylor Steele.
