Ruth Porat News
Alphabet announced on Tuesday that Ruth Porat would leave her position as chief financial officer to assume the position of president and chief investment officer.
In 2015, she was appointed CFO of Google, where she handled the changeover to the organization’s current Alphabet structure.
She will stay on as CFO until Alphabet names a replacement, the business said, and she will continue to answer to CEO Sundar Pichai.
The President and CIO’s position will have both internal and external responsibilities, Ruth Porat said in an interview with CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa on Tuesday.
According to Porat, the position will also entail a focus on investments in general. Infrastructure, real estate, data centers, and initiatives to develop in the India region will all be part of that. Porat will work with decision-makers to acknowledge the value of technology.
When asked what brought about the timing, Porat responded that after serving as a CFO for 14 years, it was time for her to take on new challenges. Porat worked as an executive at Morgan Stanley before joining Google.
Her new position includes managing Alphabet’s “other bets,” which the firm defines as initiatives not centered on software or advertising, such as Waymo, a business that develops autonomous vehicles. According to Bosa, she will also supervise Alphabet’s financial investments.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai praised Porat at the beginning of the company’s post-earnings call with investors on Tuesday. “As our longest-serving CFO, she has helped guide the company through an amazing period of growth, a global pandemic, and the ongoing economic uncertainty that has followed,” he said. “For the time being, nothing has changed in our strategy,” he continued.
Google surpassed analyst estimates for both profitability and revenue when it released its second-quarter financial results on Tuesday. In extended trading, shares increased more than 5%.
