Ryan Mallett News

Ryan Mallett, a former quarterback for the New England Patriots, has reportedly drowned at a Florida beach in the Gulf of Mexico, according to authorities. At the time, he was 35.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services were called to Destin Beach behind 775 Gulf Shore Drive shortly after 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday. The sheriff’s office said that several individuals in the water near the second sandbar appeared to be making an effort to swim back to shore. When lifeguards noticed that Mallett, a tourist who was among the victims, was not breathing, they pulled him from the water.

Mallett was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Destin Medical Centre, despite the sheriff’s office’s assertion that immediate life-saving measures had been taken. In a statement, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office offered the man’s family, friends, and loved ones its sincere condolences.

As of Tuesday night, the New England Patriots tweeted that they were “deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of former quarterback Ryan Mallett.” The statement adds, “Our thoughts are with the Mallet family, his ex-girlfriends, and everyone who is grieving his loss.”

The Patriots took Mallet 74th overall in the third round in the 2011 NFL Draught. Jimmy Garoppolo had been the New England Patriots’ highest-drafted quarterback since 1993 up until the team’s second-round 2014 selection of him.

The University of Arkansas graduate spent three seasons with the Patriots as Tom Brady’s backup while appearing in four games for New England in 2012.

Ryan’s untimely departure has me deeply grieved, according to a statement from Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. “His family and the many people whose lives he touched are in my thoughts and prayers,” I said.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the car racing team Legacy Motor Club, Johnson won’t be taking part in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago. The club claims that the Johnson family has asked for privacy at this time and that no more announcements will be made.

“It was traumatizing to learn that a long-standing family who had made so many contributions to our community were involved in this type of incident,” said Mayor Marlon Coleman to CNN station KOKI. “It was even worse when we found out that children were involved.”
