Sanjeev Jeeva News

The notorious mobster Sanjeev Maheshwari aka “Jeeva” was shot dead within the Lucknow Civil Court premises on Wednesday, only days after the spectacular killings of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in front of officers in Allahabad.

A man posing as a lawyer killed Jeeva, the feared sharpshooter of the Mukhtar Ansari-led gang. Later, the community took control of the suspect and roughed him up before turning him over to the police. This infamous thug from western Uttar Pradesh was involved in a number of murder, fraud, and criminal conspiracy cases. He was incarcerated in a Lucknow jail.

In addition to the youngster, two other people were hurt in the shooting. The gangster’s murder in broad daylight has once again brought attention to issues with courtroom security.

Residents of Muzaffarnagar claim that Sanjeev Jeeva was an ordinary family man who, prior to entering the criminal underworld, worked as a compounder at a nearby clinic. Jeeva had a “criminal mind,” according to former IPS officer Akhilesh Mehrotra. He had once abducted the clinic’s proprietor when he was working there. Jeeva allegedly went one step further and kidnapped the son of a businessman from Kolkata and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore.

The assassinated notorious mobster was friends with Munna Bajrangi and Mukhtar Ansari. He had more than 30 criminal cases filed against him, the material stated. Jeeva grew close to Mukhtar Ansari after Munna Bajrangi was fatally shot in the Baghpat jail in 2018 and became his close assistant.

Jeeva gained notoriety for his claimed involvement in Brahm Dutt Dwivedi’s slaying on February 10, 1997, a prominent member of the BJP. In this case, Mukhtar Ansari, his mafia leader, is also a co-defendant. In this instance, Jeeva received a life sentence. After his name surfaced in connection with the death of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, he attracted attention once more. He was detained in relation to the incident. Jeeva, though, carried on his criminal behavior while incarcerated.

It’s interesting to note that Payal, Jeeva’s wife, ran for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 2017 on the RJD ticket but came in last. Jeeva’s life was in danger, Payal wrote in a letter to India’s then-chief justice in 2021. The Muzaffarnagar district administration has attached Jeeva’s property worth Rs 4 crore in Muzaffarnagar.

In response to the death of mobster Sanjeev alias Jeeva before a hearing, Section 144 has been implemented in Kanpur. Anand Prakash Tiwari, the additional commissioner of police in Kanpur, stated that Section 144 has been put into effect with the goal of upholding peace and order.

After the shooting incident, Prashant Kumar, Special DG (law and order) for Uttar Pradesh, issued an order ordering all district superintendents of police to immediately boost security in all district courts.
