Sara Vickers, 36, has discussed her eight years on the ITV show and the reasons why her character has endured this long. As opposed to her on-screen union with Inspector Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans), who served as the show’s lead character, the actress also mentioned that there was a “mixed response” to her character’s new relationship with Jim Strange (Sean Rigby). Sara plays Joan, who is the daughter of Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), a mentor and friend of a young Endeavour.
Fans have been frustrated by long-running whispers of a possible relationship between the two, but in September, she began to feel something for Police Chief Superintendent Jim. Sara admitted that there had been a “bit of a mixed reaction” to the Joan/Jim situation.
One of the many liaisons Endeavour had along the way was with Joan, who was in a difficult relationship with a married man and it was obvious that the two of them would never get along.
She said in an interview with Radio Times, “But it’s funny that the first time we’ve delved into the possibility that she could go elsewhere and there’s a bit of an uproar!” Social media users wept over this unexpected love triangle.
