Sheila Sullivan Wikipedia, Obituary, Young, Attorney -On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Sheila Norene Sullivan, 67, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital.

Sheila Sullivan Bio

She was born on March 8, 1956, to Wayne W. Hughes and Ruth Belle (Yazel) Hughes at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. She completed her education at the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines after graduating from Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Iowa. In 1977, she successfully passed the Iowa State Board to become a registered nurse. At Blank Children’s Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, she mostly provided nursing care to children throughout her nursing career.

Sheila Sullivan Marital Status

In October 1992, she wed Vincent E. Sullivan, and they moved to Des Moines to start a family. She worked as a Nurse Reviewer/Certified Case Manager at Principal Financial Group in their Health Division when her health required a change from bedside nursing to a job with more structured hours. Later, she worked as a Clinical Documentation Specialist at Unity Point Health in Des Moines until her retirement in 2020.

Sheila Sullivan Education

Sheila never had her children, but she always loved kids—especially those who were just born or in the early stages of school. She liked to cook, solve most problems, and was game for a challenge. She participated in Wakonda Christian Church and offered her time to finish sewing tasks for Blank Children’s Hospital. Her closest friend was Vince, and the two of them loved to go places, shoot targets, take long drives, and hang out. Sheila’s husband, Vincent E. Sullivan, mother, Ruth Belle Hughes, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and two cousins all predeceased her.

Her foster brother Jim (Tara) Watson of Tallassee, Alabama; sister Cindy (Doug) Thiel of Garden Grove, Iowa; nephew Michael (Jennifer) Thiel of Boone, Iowa; and their children, Alice, Cyndi, and John; as well as numerous cousins and close friends; survive her.

Sheila Sullivan Obituary

Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive, will serve as the location for visitation. Following the visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the church, there will be a funeral service. The Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery will thereafter host the burial. In loving memory of Sheila, memorial donations can be made to the Blank Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Department.
