According to reports, Dave Kroupa interacted with Shanna ”Liz” Golyar on a dating service and the two had an on-and-off relationship. They had a casual relationship going on. Golyar and Kroup both had two kids from prior relationships.
Kroupa was having a casual relationship with Cari Farver at the same time. Farver and Kroupa got along great, but she made it obvious during their first encounter that she wasn’t searching for a committed relationship at the time. Farver was supposedly a computer programmer and had a son.

Liz Golyar supposedly ran into Cari Farver one time when she was leaving Dave Kroupa’s residence. There was no conversation or greeting between the two. But a few weeks later, Farver vanished, marking this as a crucial turning point in the investigation.

Farver unexpectedly disappeared in November 2012. According to her friends and family, she departed Kroupa’s home that day and was never seen again. However, Kroupa and Farver’s family members continued to receive texts from Farver’s mobile number in the days, months, and years that followed.
Farver’s mother, Nancy Raney, made an effort to get in touch with her but got no response. After Farver failed to show up at the wedding of her half-brother, Raney reported her missing.

They apparently started to suspect Golyar after learning that she rekindled her relationship with Kroupa following Farver’s disappearance. The police were able to download information from Golyar and Kroupa’s phones, and it was there that they discovered a picture of Farver’s automobile.
They subsequently discovered a number of additional pieces of evidence, including Golyar’s fingerprints and Farver’s blood from her automobile, among many other things. According to reports, the police concluded that Golyar killed Farver with a knife and then burned the former’s remains after allowing her body to rot.
Golyar allegedly continued to use text messages and phony email IDs for a few years to impersonate Farver. In December 2016, she was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. She was given a life sentence after being found guilty of the same offense in 2017.
