Troy Stratos, a notorious con artist who defrauded Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife of $10 million and a group of investors out of $11.25 million, received a 21 2/3 year jail sentence on Monday.
The severe punishment imposed by a federal judge in a courtroom in Sacramento, California, was approximately three times what the fraudster’s defense team had requested.
The 50-year-old Stratos will not regain his freedom until he is 70, but he doesn’t seem to have lost his nerve.
He requested a prison sentence in a pre-sentencing petition so that he might return to “the working world” as soon as possible.
In a court document, they stated that nothing “can cause this court greater concern” than Stratos’ final desire that he be allowed to “return to the working world” as soon as possible.
