According to a source with knowledge of the inquiry, Larry Nassar’s alleged stabbing victim was triggered by the former sports physician’s remark made while watching a Wimbledon women’s play on television over the weekend.
The source, who NBC News is not identifying because they are not authorized to talk publicly about the inquiry, claimed that Nassar, 59, was stabbed by the suspect after he allegedly mentioned he wanted to see girls compete in the tennis competition, according to jail staff. According to the source, the attack took place in Nassar’s cell, which was hidden from any witnesses or security cameras.
The Associated Press broke the story of the assault’s specifics, which happened on Sunday at the Federal Correctional Complex Coleman in Wildwood.
In light of the ongoing investigation, the federal Bureau of Prisons on Wednesday chose not to comment on the prisoner or what might have sparked the event.
