Path to Treasure Hunting
Cooper and his father grew close, which led to their employment by NASA for the Apollo Programme. Darrell and his father combed the seas in search of the flight booster rockets. He worked with NASA for the next 20 years to uncover shipwrecks near to Florida’s coastline. He and Cooper grew close and worked together for a very long time.
He was given the opportunity to join the American Academy of Underwater Sciences after receiving his diving certification. He finally started his own company, Gemini Marine Exploration, in 2014. Darrell is now able to offer shipwreck rescue services because of his company. Before Cooper died, Miklos learned something from him that will be the inspiration for his subsequent treasure hunts.
Cooper’s Treasure
In 1963, Gordon Cooper was sent on a 122-hour journey around the world to find nuclear locations. He took photographs of more than 100 anomalies, which appeared as dark patches and were thought to be sunken ships, scattered over the South Caribbean region. During his lifetime, he secretly worked on many of these ships alongside the Miklos family, discovering a treasure that is rumored to be worth billions of dollars. Then, just before he went away, he gave Darrell his research and papers.
The filmmakers portray Cooper’s missions by fusing historical footage with dramatic recreations of the Air Force colonel photographing the Caribbean while donning a spacesuit and being fastened into an orbiting spacecraft, as though this were the most natural thing for a NASA astronaut to do. Cooper took more than 100 photos of the area after spotting many dark spots and assuming they were shipwrecks. When Cooper returned to Earth, he set out to find the submerged ships—the majority of which are Spanish and date to the 16th century—but he was limited by the technology of the time.
